Step by step replace ford headlight

How to replace a Ford car's headlight

Now that you know the various prices of your Ford’s headlight, it’s time to replace that bad bulb. But then, use first things first: you need a Tx30 screwdriver, Ph2 Phillips screwdriver, and a flat-head screwdriver at your disposal to get started.

Step One: Engage your handbrake and put off the ignition of your car. If you were driving and had just parked, it’s advisable that you wait for about 20 to 30mins for your car’s engine to cool down and for the fan to stop rolling.

Step Two: Pop the hatch of your bonnet open and ensure you secure it properly with the strut for your safety. Next, locate the burnout bulb by unscrewing the first screw at the front of the headlight housing. If you are having any difficulty, you can use your finger to lift the plastic surrounding the trim to access the screw easily.

Step Three: With your Torx screwdriver, loosen the second screw at the front of the headlight housing and secure it properly so it doesn’t get lost. Unscrew the last screw at the back of the headlight and raise the light up carefully to unclip the mounting point. After that, check the back of the electrical connector and pull out the clips too to allow the light to come off completely.

Step Four: Place the headlamp housing on a flat surface away from the car body to protect your paint job. Locate the main beam to remove the electrical connector. The main beam is usually the middle one with a large rubber cover. Now, turn the headlight bulb in an anti-clockwise position to remove it.

Step Five: Insert the new bulb but try not to rock the bulb with your bare hands to avoid shortening its lifespan. Instead, make use of a rag and screw the new bulb in a clockwise position to secure it. Reconnect the electrical connector fuse and fix the rubber cover back.

Step Six: Remove the Dip beam cover and its electrical connector to pull out the bulb through the connector. Ensure you get the right bulb that matches the model of your car. Here is how to know which bulb fits your vehicle. After you must have acquired the right bulb for your headlights, insert the new bulb onto the connector and mount it in place. Don’t forget to also put the rubber cover back.

Step Seven: Replace the Indicator lights. Remove the grey cover, the electrical connector, and turn the bulb anti-clockwise to remove the indicator bulb. Insert the new bulb by turning it in a clockwise position. Once you are done replacing all the bulbs in the headlamp housing, reposition the headlamp unit and ensure it goes under the bumper tab.

Step Eight: Reinstall the main connector for the headlamp housing and carefully align your headlight with your car’s bodywork. Push it into position and reinstall the entire headlamp screws. Close your car’s bonnet and test the car’s headlight alignment to make sure it’s properly aligned to avoid blinding other oncoming drivers. Here is how to know if your headlights are aimed properly.

Conclusion

Replacing your car’s headlight bulbs and restoring your car’s headlight lenses are both vital to ensure your visibility at night isn’t compromised. The above tips will guide you properly to ensure you replace your Ford’s headlight bulb with ease. However, if you are still uncertain, you can always refer to your car’s user manual and your local auto mechanic for the alignment of your car’s headlights.
